However, life has its own ways of testing even the most virtuous, and King Harishchandra was soon to face the most difficult trial of his life, one that would demand everything from him, including his heart and soul. Sage Vishwamitra, a revered sage known for his spiritual powers, appeared before Harishchandra and asked for a large donation. Harishchandra, never one to turn down a righteous cause, agreed without a second thought, pledging to give away his entire kingdom in charity.

As the days passed, Harishchandra’s kingdom his pride, his life began to slip away from him. Vishwamitra’s demands grew, and Harishchandra’s possessions vanished, leaving him with nothing but his family and the promise he had made. But it wasn’t just his kingdom that he lost. With every step, his dignity was tested, his strength of character stripped bare.

Despite losing everything, Harishchandra’s commitment to truth never faltered. No matter how difficult the circumstances, he could not go back on his word. When his kingdom was lost, and his family had nothing left, he took a job as a keeper of the cremation grounds, a position so far removed from his once-glorious life as a king.
